In view of the large registra-tion in some subjects the following assistants were appointed afterthe organization of classes: in Biology, Mr. A. R. Middleton; inChemistry, Mr. S. M. Burke; in English Composition, Mr. R. M.Overbeck and )Mr. G. W. Rosenthal. In addition to the regularsummer staff of the University library, the following assistants wereappointed in the departmental libraries: in Philosophy Psychologyand Education, Mr. S. M. North and Mr. J. H. Owens; in History,Miss E. T. Love. This faculty and library staff entered cordiallyand harmoniously into the work of the session, and maintained ahigh level (»f energy and enthusiasm throughout the six weeks. It

Annual Eeport of the State Board of Education 177 is a great pleasure to pay a tribute to the special co-operation con-tributed by each instructor and assistant in the work of the session. In addition to the regular courses of instruction, arrangementswere made for a series of public lectures. These were given asfollows: July 7th, Professor H. Froelicher, The Madonna Ideal;July 12th, Professor C. F. Hodge, Clark University, *A FlylessBaltimore; July 13th, President Ira Remsen, The Early Days ofthe Johns Hopkins University; July 21st, Professor C. F. Hodge,The Conservation of American Bird Life; July 28th, Hon. J. WirtRandall, of Annapolis, Historic Annapolis; August 4th, Mr. Mil-ton Fairchild, of the National Institution for Moral Instruction,Personal National Thrift; August 11th, Professor Walter Denni-son, of Swarthmore, The Battle Fields of Caesar.
