English: SAN FRANCISCO (April 5, 2006) Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Dennis Moyer of Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco is presented an Air Medal by Rear Admiral Jody Breckenridge, Commander of the 11th Coast Guard District. Moyer rescued a woman in her near-fully submerged car in flood waters on New Year's Eve near Ukiah. He and a rescue team from Air Station San Francisco were assisting local and federal agencies in northern California during torrential rains when they spotted the woman. After being lowered from the helicopter, Moyer had to fight swiftly moving waters to cut the woman from her seat belt while also holding her head above water. The Air Medal is awarded to military personnel for heroic meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight. Photo by Petty Officer First Class, Alan Haraf Eleventh District. |
