About twelve oclock, General Burgoyne com-menced his march from his encampment. A part ofArnolds wing and Morgans corps of riflemen wereordered to meet and attack him. The other part ofArnolds wing, with a part of the right, commandedby General Lincoln, were ordered to advance towardsthe enemys lines and endeavour to cut off the com-munication between Burgoyne and the remainder ofhis army, which had been left for the security of hisencampment, and likewise to repel any bodies of theenemy advancing from that quarter. As General Burgoyne approached, he passed theguard commanded by Major Huil, at the distance ofabout a quarter of a mile.
