On the stunning Settle to Carlisle line, remote Ribblehead station and majestic Batty Moss Viaduct bask in some rare summer sunshine. 26 August 1981. Batty Moss (technically Ribblehead Viaduct) on the Carlisle to Settle railway has 24 massive 104 feet high stone arches stretching 440 yards over the moor. Its building cost so many lives through accidents, fights and smallpox that the railway paid for an expansion of the local graveyard at Chapel-le-Dale. Camera: Olympus Pen F Half Frame SLR. Film: Kodachrome. |
