Summary edit

Description

Bowl of rice pudding.

Rice pudding boiled on milk and served with a knob of butter and a sprinkle-mix of sugar and powdered cinnamon is a traditional Christmas food in Denmark. The dish is called 'Risengrød' in Danish, translating as rice-poridge. In previous times, a bowl was placed in the attic in December, as an offering to calm the supernatural creature called 'Nissen', an unpredictable and often very grumpy creature of Danish and Scandinavian folklore.
