| Description |
English: River Bann near Dunbar's Bridge, Huntly, Banbridge. This is the Bann immediately downstream of Dunbar's Bridge 258150. Before the building of the bridge in the town 232419 there was no bridge over the Bann. The river here might have changed with the passage of time particularly with the development of the linen industry. It is recorded that there was a ford at Huntly used by King William's army of around 40,000, to cross the Bann, on its way south. This is one of the possible crossing places. The river is quite high after heavy rain but the depth and flow are reduced in the summer. |
