English: River in flood at Abbey Bridge, Omagh. Pictured in 1969, more of interest here is the former garage owned by Neilly and Cowan, (Esso sign to the right) It has long been demolished and replaced by this new store as part of the Retail Park 139498 My wife used to get her car filled here as it was one of the last filling stations where an attendant came out to serve you. Behind that is the large tin building which was one of the stores used by the Tyrone Agricultural Society and was leased by the Tyrone County Education Committee and then the Western Education and Library Board as a grounds maintenance store, but I can remember the late William Porter and other auctioneers holding sales here. He displayed sharp wit and entertained the crowd to encourage bids. One of the keener participants in the sales was my late uncle John, who had a reputation for dealing in bicycles. |
