Nederlands: In de tweede helft van de achttiende eeuw dicteerden het Franse en Engelse hof de mode. Andere Europese hoven en de adel volgden. Kostbare beschilderde zijden stoffen waren populair, zowel de uit China geïmporteerde als de in West-Europa gefabriceerde. Deze japon, ´robe à la française´ genoemd, heeft de kenmerkende rug die in platte plooien is gelegd en die vanaf de schouders uitwaaieren tot op de grond. Het is de vroegste japon uit de collectie van het Amsterdam Museum. De zijden overjapon en rok zijn met de hand beschilderd. Meer dan tachtig bloemensoorten, elf vlindersoorten, verschillende insecten en een vogel zijn afgebeeld. |
