Title
Roman disc brooch
Description
English: An incomplete Roman copper alloy disc brooch, dating from the 2nd century AD. The brooch is flat and circular. The disc has a circle in the centre which possibly has traces of green enamel. This is 6.5mm in diameter. This is surrounded by two concentric rings. The first is raised, and is a dark brown colour. It is 1.9mm in width. The second contains a band of 6 raised pellets, surrounded by possible traces of blue enamel. This is 5.2mm in width. This is surrounded by the raised border running around the edge of the brooch. Part of the edge is worn and broken.
On the reverse of the brooch part of the catchplate remains and the spring, both of which are very worn. There is no decoration on the reverse.

The brooch measures 22.9mm in diameter, 6.2mm in thickness, and 3.26g in weight.

The brooch is similar to Hattatt 2000, page 344, figure 203, number 1029.
