Roman melon bead
Description
English: Roman bead; Large turquoise faience 'melon' bead of 1st or 2nd century date. Spherical bead, flattened at top and bottom and pierced through with a large, cylindrical hole. The bead has ridges running from top to bottom and has a pale turquoise-green glaze over its surface. There is a small area chipped away from one end, around the mouth of the hole. Height 14.8mm, diameter (across the middle of the bead) 17.9mm, weight 4.03g
