Die Mansteinstr. stellt günstig Wohnraum für Geringverdienende, Leistungsempfangende, Umschüler*innen und Studierende zur Verfügung. Durch das selbstorganisierte Leben im Haus sind die allgemeinen Kosten gering, es bedarf weder einer Verwaltungs-, oder Hausmeister*in- noch einer Reinigungskraft. Mit dem Pachtvertrag besteht die Verpflichtung der Instandhaltung. Durch die anfallenden Arbeiten lernen die Bewohnenden einen verantwortungsbewußten Umgang mit dem Haus und haben zahlreiche Lern- und Betätigungsmöglichkeiten.
Gleichzeitig ermöglicht diese Struktur einen Umgang miteinander, durch den sich die Bewohnenden bei sozialen Problemsituationen besser unterstützen können. So wird u.a. versucht, einen sozialverträglichen Umgang mit Mietschulden zu organisieren und so drohende Obdachlosigkeit zu verhindern. In Problemsituationen gibt es unterschiedliche Hilfestellungen, wie z.B. Begleitung bei Ämtergängen, Beratung bei Ausfüllen von Formularen und Austauschs- und Gesprächsangebote. In der hauseigenen Fahrradwerkstatt können sich Kinder und Jugendliche, teilweise auch erwachsene Anwohner*innen Rat und Unterstützung holen und Werkzeug für notwendige Reparaturen gestellt bekommen.[1]

Mansteinstr. provides affordable housing for low-income earners, benefit recipients, re-trainees and students. Due to the self-organized life in the house, the general costs are low, there is no need for an administration, caretaker or cleaning staff. With the lease agreement there is an obligation for maintenance. Due to the work that has to be done, the residents learn how to deal with the house responsibly and have numerous learning and activity opportunities.
At the same time, this structure makes it possible to interact with each other, through which the residents can better support each other in social problem situations. Among other things, attempts are being made to organize a socially responsible way of dealing with rent debts and thus to prevent the threat of homelessness. In problem situations, there is a variety of assistance, such as assistance with dealing with authorities, advice on filling out forms and opportunities to exchange ideas and talk. In the in-house bicycle workshop, children and young people, and sometimes even adult residents, can get advice and support and be provided with tools for necessary repairs.[2].
