Summary edit
DescriptionRubble at Luke's Point - geograph.org.uk - 1190413.jpg |
English: Rubble at Luke's Point The origins of this rubble, which forms part of the sea defences at Luke's Point, puzzled me for years until I picked up the book 'North Down: A Century of Photographs' (Ian Wilson - North Down Heritage Centre).
This book has a photograph of the original structures that the rubble was once part of - WW2 Air Raid Shelters! The shelters were situated in Main Street in Bangor (in the middle of the road, roughly between 'Boots' & 'ASDA' today) and, apparently, it took a considerable effort to demolish them. See also 5507940 for some related images. |
