Description
English: Lithograph, Undivided back, 13.85 x 9.10cm

The Rudra Mahalaya Temple at Siddhpur was conceived and constructed as a tribute to Mahadev, by the first Solanki king of Gujarat, Mulraj (942-996 ACE). Twenty years after ascending the throne, Mulraj was in a position to turn to more unworldly things and decided that the bank of the river Saraswati was a fitting site for the temple. Started in 943, it was completed in 1140 ACE and partially destroyed by Alauddin Khilji in the 14th century.

This postcard by an unknown publisher was based on a photograph by Bourne & Shepherd apparently dated to 1876.
