Russian refugees of 1919 in Sliema, Malta

Summary edit

Description
English: A photo thought to show some of the Russian refugees of 1919 in Malta. Some stayed at St Ignatius College, others at Tigne Barracks and Maria Feodorovna, her daughter and their entourage stayed at Sant'Anton Palace.

Attribution of this picture to Ellis is contested. According to other reports, the bathing hut at Exiles in Sliema was only built in 1933.

The name "Exiles" is is in fact associated with the social club for the employees of the Eastern Telegraph Company, the predecessor of Cable & Wireless. MVH
