English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum) in Svolvær, Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller items related to the Second World War and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945:
  • Russian orthodox travel / home / altar icon moulded in brass:
    • The low relief depicts crucified Christ, mourning Mary, Mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene (Svyataya Maria Magdalini) standing to the left, and the Apostle John and the Centurion Longinus (Svyatuiy Login) to the right, eight winged seraphim, two flying angels, Lord Sabaoth (God the Father) and the Holy Spirit as a dove at the top, and finally the buried skull of Adam, a symbol of Golgotha (Mount Calvary), beneath the cross. All figures are faceless due to wear from long use and polishing (making the portrayals almost aniconistic). (Traditionally the top arm of a Russian Orthodox cross represents the mocking sign above Christ's head naming him as "king of the Jews"; the lower arm is the footrest, slanted as a symbol of the good thief going to heaven and the bad thief going to hell.     • This cast metal icon and crucifix was found in the wreck of Tirpitz, a WWII battleship of the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany 1935 – 1945. Tirpitz was commissioned in 1941 and sunk by British bombers at Håkøya outside Tromsø in the Northern part of Norway on 12 November 1944. Between 1948 and 1957 the wreck was broken up by a joint Norwegian and German salvage operation.
