Summary edit

Description
English: This temple is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi, the goddess of learning. Located somewhat near (west) to the Octagonal bath. When you walk from Chandrashekara temple to the Octagonal Bath, you pass this temple on the left side on a hillock. A brief flight of steps leads to the top where the shrine is located. Inside the temple is practically empty. This is a nice vantage point to get a view of the plan of this area. There are a few interesting carvings inside too. A part of the temple is now restored to the original shape. It's cool to visit inside offering a much-needed relief in an open expanse otherwise with no shelters in the near vicinity.

A pillar capital with lotus bud inside the temple. Note the image of the cow Suckling itself. Below, the image of the monkey warrior Octagonal bath and Saraswathi temple visit can be combined, as these are close to each other but far from the other nearby spot one visit (Chandrashekara temple , for example). You can reach here by walk, bicycle, scooter etc.

A survey from the temple can spot you a number of basements of ruined palaces in the northeast direction beyond the Octagonal bath. A short distance from the temple in the northwest direction by the base of a foothill is a tiny rock cut shrine. The trail winds its way after the Octagonal bath towards the Srinagarada Hebbagailu, a colossal gateway to the citadel.

The area is generally less crowded, especially devoid of the “Hampi in half day ” kind of tourists. courtesy www.hampi.in
