English: IN 1819 IRISH LABORERS WORKING ON THE ERIE CANAL ESTABLISHED CAMPS AND BUILT MODEST WORKING CLASS HOUSES NEAR THE CANAL. THIS HOUSE AT 223 GREGORY STREET IS KNOWN TO HAVE BEEN BUILT BEFORE 1827 AND THUS MAY BE THE OLDEST SURVIVING HOUSE IN THE DISTRICT ALTHOUGH ITS EXTERIOR CHARACTER IS COMPROMISED BY 20TH CENTURY ALTERATIONS
