Description

February 3, 2020 Galveston, Texas

Description: An oil spill removal organization (OSRO) deploys a Koseq rigid sweeping arm (the yellow linear structure in the left of the picture) during a training activity with their spill response operating team (SROT). Koseq rigid sweeping arms are steel structures designed to herd oil to a pocket on the side of the vessel where the oil is then removed with a skimmer. They are particularly useful in rougher seas. In this picture, the OSRO has installed a brush skimmer at the base of the Koseq arm. BSEE Preparedness Analysts from the Oil Spill Preparedness Division regularly observe these types of activities to ensure compliance with regulations and to monitor the overall vigor of the oil spill preparedness and response community.
