Notes
  • Written data includes floor plan sketch.
  • Significance: The structures are a survival of the period when the street was dominated by buildings built at the exact property lines on Main and Cross Streets. They demonstrate the manner in which structures visually defined the shape and existence of the street circulation pattern. This pattern has been repeated in the North Side, West End, Soho, Lawernceville, etc. Apparently, it was typical in the "Golden Triangle", the main business district of Pittsburgh, prior to the skyscraper era and the pattern still dominates the areas named above.
  • Survey number: HABS PA-5200
  • Building/structure dates: 1860-1871 Initial Construction
  • Building/structure dates: 1952 Subsequent Work
  • Building/structure dates: ca. 1960 Subsequent Work
