Description
Português: O mesmo mensageiro que recebera a cabeça de S. João entrega-a agora a Salomé, passando de um quadro para o outro. Ninguém dá muita atenção ao Santo que foi sacrificado, quase como se quisessem ignorar ou estivessem arrependidos do que tinham feito. Na sala ao fundo, homens conversam como se nada tivesse acontecido; o mesmo se passa com o rei e a rainha, que estão distraidamente à mesa, ou as crianças que brincam em primeiro plano. Mesmo Salomé parece dar mais atenção ao mensageiro do que a própria cabeça do Santo, a quem tanto desejou a morte. Apesar da acção ter decorrido no século I, os personagens estão vestidos como se tudo acontecesse no século XVI, quando o quadro foi pintado. Isso permite-nos saber qual era a moda e o gosto desse século.
