In Borth wird das lebensnotwendige Mineral Salz aus der 1897 entdeckten niederrheinischen Salzpfanne abgebaut. Das bergmännisch gewonnene Salz ist mit rund 99% NaCl von hoher natürlicher Reinheit. Produziert werden Industriesalz, z.B. für die chemische Industrie, Gewerbesalz, z.B. für Gerbereien und zur Wasserenthärtung, Auftausalz und Speisesalz. Die Jahresförderung des Bergwerks liegt bei 2-2,5 Millionen Tonnen, die Tageskapazität bei 10.000 Tonnen.
