Summary edit

Description
English: "Samuel Leavitt: Journal to Westpoint." Cover of the journal written by Stratham, New Hampshire, native Samuel Leavitt, who served as a soldier in the Captain Daniel Jewell's Company (Col. Thomas Bartlett's Regiment) in the New Hampshire militia during the American Revolutionary War. Leavitt's Journal covers a three-month period from July 5, 1780, until October 1780, during which Leavitt and his fellow New Hampshire soldiers marched to West Point, and then returned to his New Hampshire home. The Journal describes Leavitt's experiences as a member of the Continental Line, including encounters with General George Washington. Leavitt's Journal was discovered by an archivist working with files at the National Archives.[1] Image courtesy of the National Archives, Washington, D.C.
