Description
Español: Tras escapar de la cólera de su padre, San Francisco de Asís fue acogido por el obispo Guido de Asís, haciendo ante este prelado renuncia legal de todos sus bienes, llegándose a despojar de su bolsa y sus vestiduras, que dejó a los pies de su progenitor, mientras exclamaba: "Hasta ahora he dado el nombre de padre a Pedro Bernardone, pero habiéndome propuesto servir a Dios, le devuelvo este dinero por el que estaba tan preocupado y estos vestidos que de él he recibido, para poder decir con más razón de hoy en adelante: "Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos", y no ya Pedro Bernardone". Tras oir estas palabras de su hijo, el mercader cogió las ropas y el dinero y se marchó, mientras el obispo cubría la desnudez de Francisco con su propio manto. Esta obra es un boceto preparatorio del lienzo homónimo pintado por su autor para la serie de la vida de San Francisco de Asís de la Real basílica de San Francisco el Grande de Madrid.
