DescriptionSandstone slab with (apparently natural) cup-marks - geograph.org.uk - 1252750.jpg |
English: Sandstone slab with (apparently natural) cup-marks. There are some large red sandstone slabs located here on a slope. A portion of the upper surface of one of them is shown here; this slab measures about 3.6 m (L) × 1.1 m (W) × 0.5 m (H). It is oriented in a N-S direction, the southern end being the higher.
Several of the "cups" can be seen in this view, measuring up to about 12 cm across. A lower slab lies right next to this one, and it bears similar markings. When examined in the 1960s, they were, quite rightly, considered worth noting because of their possible cup marks; however, on re-examination in the 1990s, the marks were deemed to be natural, the result of weathering: http://www.wosas.net/wosas_site.php?id=7810 The boulders are easily located from the nearby track: 1252751. |
