Summary edit

Description
English: On December 19, 2017, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image which included parts of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq.

The orange sands of the extremely arid Nefud Desert arc across northeastern Saudi Arabia. This desert is best known for its large, crescent-shaped sand dunes as well as frequent violent winds which may arise suddenly. The eastern coast of Saudi Arabia lies on the Persian Gulf, as well as the islands that make up Bahrain and mitten-shaped Qatar.

In the north, an area of green marks the delta of the Shatt el Arab River as it pours into the Persian Gulf. This river, sometimes also called Arvand Rud, is formed by the confluence of the Tigris and the Euphrates in southern Iraq. At its southern-most reach, the Shatt el Arab forms the border between Iraq and Iran. On the northwestern tip of the Persian Gulf sits the country of Kuwait, which is bordered by Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
