Summary edit

Description
English: Scarva Visitor Centre The visitor centre stands on the banks of a canal and, in days gone by, Scarva was an important stop on the canal's trade route. Historic Scarva was home to King William's (joint monarch with his wife Mary) army in the days before the Battle of the Boyne. His father-in-law, King James II had gathered a strong French/Irish army in his bid to regain the crown he had lost in 1688. The Jacobite army, mainly consisting of Catholic sympathisers, was sent packing at the Boyne in 1690 effectively consigning James to a life in exile. Two major attempts were made to regain the Stewart throne, in 1715 and 1745 but were doomed to failure.
