Summary edit

Description

English: Very small volcano in Scharnhausen (9km southeast of Stuttgart), the northern of the “Urach-Kirchheimer-Vulkangebiet” (355 diatremes, active only in Miocene), Middle Swabian Alb. Digging a small geological outcrop resulted in pyroclasts, mainly lapilli with foreign inclusions. The diatreme is geologically very important, because all three (!) lithostratigraphic units of the South German Jurassic were found amongst the pyroclasts. Finding White Jurassic means: in Miocene the Alb plateau either extended to Scharnhausen, or, there was a partial extension to the plateau.
