Description

Fleet Air Arm Historic Flight Hawker Sea Fury T.20S WG655 at North Weald. It was destroyed in a collision with two large oak trees after an engine failure on take off from Yeovilton on 14 July 1990, heading for a display at Silverstone, resulted in a forced landing in a field at Bruton, Somerset. The hulk was exported to New Zealand, but later moved to USA as N20MD, bought by Charles Greenhill of Illinois. In 2001 it was under long-term restoration at the Sanders family "Eagles Nest" facility, Ione, California. In 2006, it was rebuilt as NX20MD at Sky Harbor workshop, Ontario. Painted in Royal Navy training livery, the restoration was completed in California and it was then bought by a UK collector in 2008, moving back to the UK the following year to join the Fighter Collection at Duxford, who replaced its Centaurus engine with a Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp. In 2018 it was bought by Shaun Patrick and became G-INVN. In 2019 it was announced that the Duxford-based Aerial Collective would make it available to the public for flight experiences. On 4 August 2020 it came down in a field about 5 miles from Duxford after the engine failed at 2,000ft on a test flight and the fuselage broke into two pieces during the landing. Two on board (Eskil Amdal and Dave Unwin), both sustained some injuries.
