"Exterior Stewart and Holmes Drug Co.", one of three photos collectively captioned "The wholesale and retail drug house of Stewart and Holmes Drug Co." from brochure Seattle and the Orient (1900). Signs on the exterior of the building say (top to bottom): "Wholesale druggists", "Surgical instruments", "As[s]ayer material", and "Stewart and Holmes Drug Co." The signs in the window have the address number "627" and, again, the company name. Signs visible on the building to the right say (top to bottom): "Institu[te...]", "Bartley[...], and, on the exterior door, "POSTA[]". The building at 627 First Avenue still survives as of 2007, although it has "unfortunately lost most of the original elements of its façade, in addition to several floors" (Summary for 625 1st AVE / Parcel ID 8591400060, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, an article about an adjacent building). For many years it housed the pawnbroker Totem Loans and as of 2007 houses Yam Oriental Rugs. |
