Summary edit

Description The Seattle Art Museum (commonly known as "SAM") is an art museum located downtown. The Seattle Art Museum opened on June 23, 1933 in an Art Deco building designed by Carl F. Gould of the architectural firm Bebb and Gould. SAM is now better than ever after a massive expansion that connects the iconic old building on University Street to a sleek, light-filled high-rise space around the corner on 1st Avenue and Union Street.
