Description

Page 148 of brochure Seattle and the Orient (1900). This page includes text plus three photos (and some hand-drawn decoration) collectively captioned "The wholesale and retail drug house of Stewart and Holmes Drug Co." The pictures are individually captioned "View of main floor" (upper left), "Exterior Stewart and Holmes Drug Co." (upper right) and "Soda fountain S.&H. D. Co." (lower).

Signs on the exterior of the building say (top to bottom) "Wholesale druggists", "Surgical instruments", "As[s]ayer material", and "Stewart and Holmes Drug Co." Visible on the exterior door to the right is "POSTA[]". The signs in the window have the address number "627" and, again, the company name.

The building at 627 First Avenue still survives as of 2007, although it has "unfortunately lost most of the original elements of its façade, in addition to several floors" (Summary for 625 1st AVE / Parcel ID 8591400060, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, an article about an adjacent building). For many years it housed the pawnbroker Totem Loans and as of 2007 houses Yam Oriental Rugs.
