Sebastian Cabots Map, 1544. in the year of the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ, M.CCCC.XCIIII(1494), the twenty-fourth day of June (at 5 oclock) in the morning;to which land has been given the name of The Land First Seen (ter-ram primum visam) ; and to a great island, which is very near thesaid land, the name of St. John has been given, on account of itshaving been discovered the same day. If the first voy-age of the Cabots was made in 1494, the mistake as tothe age of Sebastian has been general, for it is not at all likely that 1497.)
