DescriptionSecond World War defences at Langdon Hole near Dover - geograph.org.uk - 1520866.jpg |
English: Second World War defences at Langdon Hole near Dover Under Dover Castle and the White Cliffs are a maze of tunnels which were used during the Second World War and can still be visited as part of the tour of Dover Castle. To the east, beyond Langdon Hole, is a zig zag path cut into the chalk cliff face which takes the walker down to more gun emplacements as seen here. Nearby, a ladder leads down to the beach. At low tide the wreck of the German sailing ship Preussen can be visited. It was built in 1902 and at the time she was wrecked in 1910 was the largest five masted sailing ship in the world |
