Description
English: Sri Devol Maha Devalaya is situated on a beautiful picturesque island off Hikkaduwa. This place of worship possesses great historical and cultural value and is a favourite stop in the itineraries of travellers and devotees alike. about the shrine is perched on a rock that appears to be floating on the sea, about 700 metres offshore. This rock is said to be the ‘stone ship’ which brought the god Devol, his seven brothers and seven hundred followers to Sri Lanka. The rock island on which the Seenigama Sri Devol Maha Devalaya is situated covers about seventy-five square metres of land.
