| Description |
English: Selside campsite 1975 Starting caving as teenagers, we had a few adventurous weekends in the Yorkshire Dales. Here, in single-skin egyptian cotton tents with wooden poles, we were drying our woolly underwear and Army stores boiler suits ready for another trip. Having done Long Churn on the previous day, we went off to Browgill Cave on the day this photo was taken. I think on this occasion we had travelled to the area by bus, but on other occasions we had cycled the 60 miles or so up to the Dales. At least we had proper helmets and lights (the brown lump you can see on the right hand tent is a Texolex Miner's helmet, which was leading edge protective technology in 1975...) |
