English: Original linen backed stone lithograph ballet poster: Serge Lifar. This Russian poster depicts a famous ballet dancer. The serene colors are elegant and captivating and catches the performer in his own right as one of the leading dancers of his time. One can read up on the history of Serge Lifar...which makes it all the more charming to own. A rare piece of history! Preserved and mounted on linen. Great condition. All posters arrive with authenticity papers.

Lifar made his debut at the Ballets Russes in 1923, where he quickly became a principal dancer. He played the lead roles in the ballets of George Balanchine and at the death of Diaghilev in 1929 he entered the Paris Opera Ballet and created his first ballet. As ballet master of the Paris Opera from 1930 to 1944 and from 1947 to 1958, he devoted himself to the restoration of the technical level of the Paris Opera Ballet to return it to its place as one of the best companies in the world. Original Serge Lifar, linen backed and ready to frame. Original Color lithograph. 63 x 47" unlined. Teddy Piaz worked in France during the 1920s-1940s. Serge Lifar (1905-1986) was a Russian-French dancer and choreographer of exceptional stage presence, who revitalized the Paris Opéra Ballet and was the primary figure of modern French ballet. Born in Kiev, Lifar was a premier dancer in the Ballet Company of the Russian impresario Sergei Diaghilev before becoming director of the Paris Opéra Ballet in 1929. Conveying drama through choreography, he created more than 50 ballets on themes from myth, legend, and history and used male dancers in dominant rather than supporting roles.
