Bauscher, Weiden, Bavière Notice du British Museum www.britishmuseum.org/research/search_the_collection_data... _____________ Ce célèbre modèle de service de table, qui se trouve dans de nombreux musées présentant des œuvres d'art jugendstil (il existe au musée d'Orsay mais il est interdit de le photographier), a été créé par Peter Behrens en 1901 lorsqu'il faisait partie de la colonie d'artistes de Darmstadt. Les décors des différentes pièces de ce service de table, présenté dans sa propre maison (lors de l'exposition de 1901 : " a document of German Art"), étaient gris clair mais le service a été commercialisé en plusieurs couleurs comme toutes les productions artistiques de la colonie de Darmstadt. Alors que les maisons des artistes appartenant à la colonie de Darmstadt ont été conçues par JM Olbrich, son directeur artistique, Peter Behrens, (en concurrence avec Olbrich) a dessiné seul les plans de sa propre maison, le décor intérieur et le mobilier. Cette démarche en faveur d'un art total était bien dans l'esprit du mouvement jugendstil ou art nouveau même si Peter Behrens préférait, dès cette époque, les décors linéaires géométriques aux décors floraux du jugendstil. Peter Behrens a été l'un des plus grands designers industriels et architectes allemands du début du XXè siècle. Après avoir participé de 1899 à 1903 à la colonie d'artistes de Darmstadt, il a été nommé en 1903 : directeur de l'école d'arts appliqués de Düsseldorf, en 1907 : conseiller artistique de AEG (Allgemeine Elektricitäts Gesellschaft) à Berlin, en 1922 : professeur d'architecture à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts de Vienne, en 1936 : directeur de son cabinet d'architecture à Berlin. Dans son cabinet d'architecture et de design, il a eu comme collaborateurs : Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier. |
