Description
English: Plate, hard-paste porcelain. Decoration by Nicolas-Antoine le Bel (active 1804/45), Sèvres, French, 1814. The scene is of tombs near Baalbek in Syria, copied from an engraving after Louis-Francois Cassas (1756-1827). The plate is part of a service of vues diverses begun for Napoleon I and completed for Louis XVIII. Purchase, Rogers Fund, Bequests of Annie C. Kane and Emma A. Sheafer, by exchange and gifts in memory of John Goldsmith Phillips, 1994. 1994.114
