| Description |
Somewhere near Altenbrak or possibly Treseburg. The Bode consists of Rapp, Warme and Kalte branches. dammed in the Harz, providing drinking water for Magdeburg. This section is after the confluence of all three branches, below the Wendefurth Dam. The Warme and Kalte Bode flow respectively Tanne and Schierke, the Rappbode from Benneckenstein. A useful booklet for the area is the GDR's Wanderatlas Bodetal from VEB Tourist Verlag. This booklet also indicates why the date of 1926 occurs on the bridge. On the night of new year, 1926 the inhabitants of Treseburg experience the worst flood of the Bode which must have washed away the bridge. A flow of 330 cubic metres per second was reached, a thousand fold increase over the lowest flow. The system of dams in the area not only supplies drinking water,but controls these torrents. |
