LATE SAFAVID, IRAN, 18TH CENTURY Grisaille brush drawing on paper, a bust portrait of Shah Tahmasp wearing European style coat and elaborate turban with ostrich plumes and pearl and diamond ornament, identification inscription to the right, laid down between gold and polychrome rules and brown and white paper on blue outer border, slight staining Miniature 3 5/8 x 1in. (9.1 x 4.2cm.) A very similar drawing although slightly less crisp sold at Christie's South Kensington, 29 April 2005, lot 564. |
