| Description |
English: Shakti Yoga, 133 Grant Street at Boyd Street, Buffalo, New York, July 2020. The high Neoclassical design of the building (featuring an Ionic tetrastyle temple front with dentillated pediment and an ancone-supported cornice overhanging the entrance) makes it a rather unusual standout amongst the oeuvre of the local firm of Bley & Lyman (who were more famous for working in Art Deco, Colonial Revival and other contemporaneous aesthetics), but places it squarely in tune with the contemporary trends in bank architecture. The building served as a branch office of M&T Bank from its opening in 1923 until the early '90s, when they moved across the street to the erstwhile Empire Federal Savings Bank branch at 130 Grant; it's been home to the Shakti Yoga studio since 2009. |
