er. A new split bamboo rod is bought. It weighsabout five ounces and is nine feet in length. New silk linesare added, as the very act of buying tackle is a legitimatefactor in the sport, which one would not miss, though youor I would not confess that sometimes anticipation has con-stituted the whole bag. Your feet rest upon a rug of Brussels carpet, andthe boat is so immaculate that it would seem a mortal sin toland a fish in it. Behind the midship angler sits the boatman, who knowswhere all the bass are stationed on this happy river; who isto row you to all the famous rocks for thirty miles alongshore, entertain you, bait your hook, discuss all questionspertaining to the river, if desired, and at one oclock sharp,on some fair island, cook and serve a fish dinner fit for thegods. This very prodigy is behin
