Summary edit

Description
English: Shawend Burn, parting of the ways. To left the sluice controls the water supply to the Forth & Clyde Canal via the canal feeder while to the right the dam 1622990 allows excess to overflow into the lower stretch of the burn which heads towards Kelvin Water.

In the First Statistical Account; Kilsyth parish [No.XI] c.1791, the minister wrote of this burn;

"In the east there is the Shaw-end burn; on which there is a threshing mill near its source, and a lint and bussing, a barley, corn, and a snuff miln [sic] farther down, and below the great reservoir". The latter being the Townhead reservoir now more commonly known as Banton loch.
