English: Sheepscrape These earthy hollows are a frequent sight on the high exposed pastures, where sheep have scraped out a little windbreak just big enough to shelter one or two of them.
Sheepscrapes are interesting from a geological point of view as they reveal the underlying slatey glacial soil turned orange by the humic acid from rotting vegetation leaching iron out of the minerals. |
