Summary edit
DescriptionSheldon Pritchard House, Cheektowaga, New York - 20200902.jpg |
English: The Sheldon Pritchard House, 1593 Kensington Avenue, Cheektowaga, New York, September 2020. Built in 1941, this is a typical representative example of the type of housing stock that was being built in the far northwest precincts of Cheektowaga - and, indeed, in suburbs nationwide - immediately before and after the Second World War. A style popularly known as "Minimal Traditional" is exemplified here by the cross-gabled floor plan, minimally overhanging eaves, siding in a mix of brick and clapboard, and - above all - an aesthetic that's describable as a streamlined take on the earlier Colonial Revival style. Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Sheldon Pritchard (1901-1976) came to Western New York as a young man and was working as a salesman for the Continental Baking Company during the time he lived here with his wife Erika and their children. Pritchard moved to Fort Myers, Florida some time between 1951 and 1954. |
