Summary edit

Description Official designation:- M4A4 Sherman V Flail Built by the Detroit Tank Arsenal, Michigan. This is a late built M4A4 Sherman fitted with a Mine Flail, powered by the tanks main engine. Crabs were used during D-Day and until the end of WW2, for clearing known minefields. Mine clearing took place at 1.25mph and the gun had to face rearwards, giving the tank no self-defence while clearing. On display at The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, UK. 26th July 2016
