Summary edit

Description

Pedestrians traverse across a white floor at the main entrance to Westfield World Trade Center shopping mall.

Part of the World Trade Center transportation hub, this cathedral like structure with an oculus atop was designed by architect and structural engineer Santiago Calatrava. Calatrava likened its soaring spires to the wings of doves, a pretty obvious nod to the nearby 9/11 Memorial plaza. With its cathedral-like Oculus that's already an Instagram magnet, the hub is a prominent symbol of New York's Financial District revival.*

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub was completed at a cost of $4.2 billion and opened in March 2016. The project was plagued by delays and cost overruns. The transportation hub will connect 11 subway lines, PATH trains, MTA bus routes and ferry service.
