Summary edit

Description
English: Damage to railway lines, Albert, France, during World War I. It is likely that these damaged railway lines were targeted very deliberately. Railway links were vitally important to any army during World War I as they could be used to carry troop reinforcements or new supplies of ammunition and food. Note that a soldier continues to keep guard despite the damage: it is possible that the tracks remain intact further down the line.

The Second Battle of Albert in August 1918 was an important Allied victory, as it pushed the German forces into full retreat. Tanks were instrumental in the Allies' success, and over eight thousand German prisoners were taken.
[Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT IN FRANCE. Albert half an hour after the Germans had been push out. Showing the railway lines near the station.']
