Summary edit

Description
English: View up the two hyperboloid Shukhov Oka Towers, on the west bank of the Oka River in central Russia, 1989.
  • Two 1929 Soviet Union era electricity pylons allowed transmission lines to cross the Oka River, and they were designed and engineered by the great Russian scientist Vladimir Shukhov (1853-1939).
  • The remaining one of the two is on the west bank of the Oka River near Dzerzhinsk, in Nizhniy Novgorod Oblast (east tower illegally demolished for scrap steel—2005). The west tower is the world’s only surviving hyperboloid electricity pylon.
