Summary edit

Description

Side wurde wahrscheinlich im 7. Jhd v.

Side was probably in the 7th Century BC, founded by the Aeolians from the ancient Greek city of Cyme. 333 BC the city was conquered by Alexander the Great and occupied. After losing the sea battle Seleuide against Rome, Side was first pergamenisch, then roman, and rose to the wealthy port city. But with the decline and fall of the Roman Empire as well as fate was sealed Sides. The port city sank into obscurity. Side around 1200 was already a heap of ruins. The fishing village of Selimiye, that was founded in the beginning of the last century, stands in the ruins of the ancient city and is now a popular tourist destination.
